How would you like to carry this load???

Edisto's Final Days....

Doesn't this look like a black and white? Beautiful!
The final days were filled with more fun and more family and friends.
One of the funniest signs posted frequently along the Edisto shoreline... found out the "groins" are also called "edys".
Jennifer visited from Myrtle Beach on THURSDAY. Then Wayne and Brenda Freeman came for lunch and Angela returned late evening. Everyone stayed overnight - Canasta was learned and relearned! Ha!
Another day of sunshine... we're finally getting our tans!

A new "do" for Caleb. I'm not sure he's impressed.

Some of the local wild life...

Edisto Beach - Middle Days!

TUESDAY again was overcast and breezy - so we visited the Botany Bay Plantation - a drive-through trail with several spots to get out and view landmarks. A former cotton plantation, it is now a state park.
The Live Oaks are huge - and quite majestic. Spanish Moss hangs everywhere.
This is an old ice house. The inside was lined with what looked to be oyster shells.
The old carriage house...
Emily and Eric pose for their fourth anniversary picture - coming up on May 28th!
WEDNESDAY Caleb was up at his usual 5:30 time slot for vacation..... here he's playing on the porch at 7 AM!
NO RAIN - so we headed to the beach! Just enough wind to keep the kite flying without fear of it snapping. Dad's keeping him reeled in properly!

Here's a short clip of kite flying and kayak pushing...

Even Caleb got to float in the boat!
Can you tell who in this picture doesn't think it's quite warm enough to sun on the beach???
Mom and Dad bid farewell after lunch, so Caleb has lost his "watching Nemo" partner.
One of plusses of having stormy days is the sunset at night! The Sound side of Edisto faces West, so we sure saw some beautiful evenings!

Beach Blast - the first 3 days!

We left Hendersonville at 10 AM SATURDAY morning, complete with kayaks and a loaded Subaru and truck. Caleb travelled very well and slept surprisingly little.

We arrived at 5 PM and unloaded quickly - then headed to the beach. At first, Caleb turned away from the ocean and told Eric bye bye. But shortly, he took to the ocean like a pelican! He loved the waves and sand and sea birds.

SUNDAY broke cloudy and windy, but Bennett and Eric took the kayaks out anyway. We enjoyed the shore while the guys handled the paddling that morning.

Angela came to visit in the morning, and Mom and Dad arrived after lunch. We had a wonderful visit with Angela and then stayed in for the afternoon while the rain slashed outside.

MONDAY brought more rain and wind, so we visited the local Piggly Wiggly and the bookstore for post cards and second hand books. Our house had a nice porch which provided shelter during bad weather and a great place for Caleb to play with his fire truck, bubbles, and in his "sandbox".

Reflecting on April...

Caleb had a busy April - with several "firsts" under his belt. He saw his first fire up close and watched Papa as he lit the last fire for the season. He called it "candles"! We were a little hesitant to have a fire in the fireplace while he was around. He was strongly attracted to it!!
I also gave him his first haircut. He was very patient while I snipped the long tail in the back and "lowered" his ears a bit. The waves are gone...

Then we celebrated Easter - Caleb got to start eating before we did!

Angela (Eric's sister) joined us for a wonderful weekend!
